Community Empowerment Program

The challenge

Large industrial sites often import both their workforce and their supply chain, leaving the surrounding community with the disruption and little of the benefit.

What we did

We built training programs tied to the actual roles our sites recruit for, and worked with local suppliers to bring them up to the standard our procurement requires rather than sourcing around them.

The outcome

More than 20,000 people have completed training across fourteen sites, and local suppliers now account for a substantially larger share of site spend than when the program began.
